Kiplinger’s Ranks TCNJ Among the 100 Best Public Colleges for 2014

EWING, NJ … The College of New Jersey was ranked #34 in the top 100 colleges on Kiplinger’s Personal Finance’s list of Best Values in Public Colleges for 2014. The ranking cites four-year schools that combine outstanding education with economic value.

TCNJ ranks #34 for in-state tuition, and tops the list of only three New Jersey public institutions included in this ranking: Rutgers University—New Brunswick #47, and Ramapo College #66.

Additionally, TCNJ ranks #8 on the Best Values in Public Colleges for Out-of-State Students list, which cites the College for its strong freshman-retention rate (94 percent) and competitive admission rate (46 percent). Kiplinger’s states: “The low 13-to-1 student-faculty ratio allows students to get plenty of attention from faculty and staff, and the high four-year graduation rate – 72 percent — puts it ahead of powerhouses UCLA and UC Berkeley.”

Kiplinger’s assesses quality according to a number of measurable standards, including the admission rate, the percentage of students who return for sophomore year, the student-faculty ratio and the four-year graduation rate. Cost criteria include low sticker prices, abundant financial aid and low average debt at graduation. Many schools have appeared on the list multiple times—TCNJ included—a testament to the consistent value these colleges provide.
