Blanton comes east to TCNJ from Hawaii Pacific University.

After a national search, The College of New Jersey has appointed Sharon Blanton to the position of CIO and Vice President for Information Technology. She will assume her post on November 30, 2015.

“We are very fortunate to have Dr. Blanton join our leadership team,” said TCNJ President R. Barbara Gitenstein. “In a pool of exceptionally talented candidates, Sharon stood out as someone with the strategic vision, technical acumen, and communication and interpersonal skills that will help TCNJ as we finalize and then implement our institutional strategic plan.”

Blanton comes to the college from Hawaii Pacific University, where she serves as the Vice President and Chief Information Officer. In her current role, she oversees IT services at two campuses, seven satellite centers, and a marine research center. She has led successful efforts in enterprise computing services, telecommunications, instructional technology, and distance learning.

“In this day and age, technology and infrastructure must be deployed to support an institution’s meeting its goals and fulfilling its mission,” continued Gitenstein.  “The leader of IT at TCNJ must be both an expert in the discipline and a senior leader who can collaborate with the cabinet and all campus constituents to assure the college’s success.  I believe that Dr. Blanton is just that person.”

“I am honored to be joining such an accomplished, selective institution,” says Blanton. “I look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues to build information technology as a strategic asset and continue advancing TCNJ’s tremendous student success record.”

Blanton received a BA in mass communication and instructional technology from Towson State University; an MEd in instructional technology from the University of Virginia; and a PhD in higher education administration from Capella University. She was a Frye Leadership Institute Fellow.
